What does freedom look like on us?
It looks like a deep well of love and compassion in our souls. A gushing overflow of desire that seeks peace and joy for ourselves but also others in our community. And the most amazing thing is, as free people, we are not afraid to dig for it. We aren't afraid of taking the metaphorical shovel of contemplation and reflection and tearing away at the dirt and sediment of White supremacy that has tried to bury us. Some things in our lives die and stay dead. Other things die only to be resurrected better and stronger. The key to living well and with joy is knowing the difference between the two.
I'm so proud of the way Black people have reinvented what life has delivered to us. That is our gift. We are alchemists. Transforming, seemingly by magic, a hard thing into something valuable and useful and, yes, filled to overflowing with joy.
